Powell, TN (August 21, 2023) – Tennova Healthcare announced the addition of obstetrician-gynecologist Antonia Roberts, M.D., FACOG, to their network of care providers. Specializing in complete gynecological care and a full scope of routine pregnancy and postpartum care services, Dr. Roberts is now accepting new patients at the Powell, North Knoxville Medical Center location.
Dr. Roberts received her medical degree from East Tennessee State University and completed her residency in gynecologic surgery and obstetrics at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego as an active duty lieutenant in the US Navy. She also served at Naval Medical Center as an academic chief resident. Following her residency, she served overseas as a gynecologic surgery and obstetrics physician at the US Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Okinawa, Japan, where she was the American College of Surgeons’ National Surgical Quality Improvement Program Surgeon Champion for the hospital. Dr. Roberts is board certified and is a fellow with the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
“We’re are pleased to welcome Dr. Roberts to our women’s health team,” said Bill Rich, chief executive officer, Tennova Healthcare - North Knoxville Medical Center. “Our team has a reputation for delivering exceptional care and service to their patients and we know that Dr. Roberts is a strong addition in support of this quality care.”
Dr. Roberts has wanted to be a doctor since high school. She has worked as an EMT as well as in labs, but wasn’t sure of her focus. She shadowed her aunt in research and new she wanted to do something technical, but her specialty crystalized while she was in rotation at ETSU, where she was part of a delivery of twins and then immediately after, on another patient, did ovarian surgery. The experiences change constantly, keeping you on your toes and labor and delivery can be such a satisfying and joyful experience that she knew this was it. Dr. Roberts is happy to settle down in her home town with her family and friends.
“I enjoy caring for women in all stages of life and providing excellent care. I understand the importance of taking care of each other, from annual exams, pre- and post-pregnancy care and post-menopausal care too,” Dr. Roberts said. “My goal is to make sure every one of my patients knows while they are in my care, they are of utmost importance.”
In 2021, she began recording the “Thinking About OBGYN” podcast, and has since been downloaded over ten thousand times and is highly regarded among trainees and teaching staff in obstetrics and gynecology. In 2023, she completed the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Global Health Distance Learning Graduate Certificate Program.
