Sports Medicine
Whether you’re a professional athlete or a recreational competitor, an injury can prevent you from enjoying your sport, and even make everyday activities challenging. As an athlete, you want a doctor who has experience in sports medicine, and a care program that can help you regain mobility, strength and fitness.
Sports medicine specialists at North Knoxville Medical Center are experienced at diagnosing and treating a wide range of sports-related injuries. Sports medicine doctors work closely with rehabilitation specialists and certified athletic trainers — licensed health care professionals who specialize in athletic injuries — to help you return to your sport as quickly as possible.
Sports Medicine Outreach
North Knoxville Medical Center offers a sports medicine outreach program to provide athletic training services to local high schools. These athletic trainers work under the direction of a doctor and collaborate with other health care professionals, athletic administrators, coaches and parents to provide high school athletes with quality care.
Tennova Sports Medicine is a community outreach program that places certified athletic trainers (ATCs) at local high schools to provide practice and game coverage for all TSSAA sanctioned high school athletics. We work in close conjunction with the physicians and staff athletic trainers at Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic to provide quality care to participating Knox County high schools.
Tennova Sports Medicine acts as an extension of orthopedic, emergency, diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services. The ATCs of Tennova Sports Medicine provide exceptional service by implementing the mission of North Knoxville Medical Center to improve the health and well-being of our communities.
Certified athletic trainers are licensed health care professionals who work under the direction of a licensed physician to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the following five domains:
- Injury/illness prevention and wellness protection
- Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- Immediate and emergency care
- Treatment and rehabilitation
- Organizational and professional health and well-being
